Matthew 7 (Sermon on the Mount)

For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.
You parents--if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?
Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!
If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

"Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

"You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way.
But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.
"Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep, but are really wolves that will tear you apart.
You can detect them by the way they act, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit. You don't pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles.
A healthy tree produces good fruit, and an unhealthy tree produces bad fruit.
A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit.
So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.
Yes, the way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced. (NLT)

John 13

Jesus said, "It is the one to whom I give the bread dipped in the sauce." And when he had dipped it, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.
As soon as Judas had eaten the break, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, "Hurry. Do it now."
None of the othes at the table knew what Jesus meant.
Since Judas was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay for the food or to give some money to the poor. 30 So Judas left as once, going out into the night.
As soon as Judas left the room, Jesus said, "The time has come for me, the Son of Man, to enter into my glory, and God will receive glory because of all that happens to me.
And God will bring me into my glory very soon.
Dear children, how brief are these moments before I must go away and leave you! Then, though you search for me, you cannot come to me--just as I told the Jewish leaders.

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."

Simon Peter said, "Lord, where are you going?" And Jesus replied, "You can't go with me now, but you will follow me later."
"But why can't I come now, Lord?" he asked. "I am ready to die for you."
Jesus answered, "Die for me? No, before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me. (NLT)
